Unfortunately, part of the ceiling inside St Mark’s has collapsed. Fortunately, Lockdown meant that the church was not in use at the time; hence, no injuries were sustained. However, until we get the ceiling fixed or repaired, the building will remain out of use.
This closure will prevent our youth activities, 3G, the Saturday and midweek services, Zumba classes and others from restarting, once Covid-19 government restrictions are lifted. Moreover, it will also prevent the restarting of our crucial outreach programmes such as Lighthouse and Clothesbank. We have no current alternative for these wonderful services to our community. So, the reinstatement of St Mark’s is absolutely critical to the work of the church in our community.
A formal survey has estimated £20,000 for the ceiling repair or £7,000 for an interim ‘fix’. These do not include the survey cost of £1,500.
The Church Treasurer is currently forecasting a shortfall in income of £23,000 due to Covid-19 forcing the suspension of services, Beacon printing and the hire of St Mark’s. The unforeseen expense of the ceiling repair will push our deficit towards £50,000. This is an amount that we simply cannot afford.
For the sake of the homeless, poor and needy in our parish, we ask that you please make a donation, run a fund-raising event or help publicise our plight, to enable St Mark’s to open as soon as guidelines allow and continue our mission to those in need in our community.
Please spread the word as far and wide as possible – thank you!
